In many respects, Cremations follow a similar structure to a traditional funeral, with a service held before the cremation takes place.
When the funeral cortege arrives at the crematorium chapel, a short committal ceremony may take place before the coffin is respectfully transferred to the cremator. The ashes are then placed in an urn and returned to the family for final arrangements according to their wishes.

What is involved in our Cremations services?
Cremations arranged by John McGowan & Son Funeral Directors involve organising the full funeral service followed by the cremation at a crematorium. Families may choose to hold a service in a church, funeral home, or crematorium chapel before travelling to the crematorium for a short committal ceremony. After this moment of farewell, the coffin is respectfully transferred to the cremator. Later, the ashes are carefully placed in an urn and returned to the family. Our Cremations service is designed to ensure everything is handled with care and sensitivity so families can focus on remembering their loved one.
What options are available for the ashes after Cremations?
After Cremations arranged by John McGowan & Son Funeral Directors, families have a number of options for what they would like to do with the ashes. These may include:
